Hannah & Hanna in Dreamland

Hannah & Hanna In Dreamland builds on John Retallack’s award-winning earlier play, Hannah And Hanna, which has been performed extensively both nationally and internationally.

Now in their early thirties and sixteen years after they first met, Hanna returns to Margate to enlist the help of her friend Hannah in searching for a Syrian girl she befriended in Kosovo and who may have succeeded in getting across the Channel. The Calais “Jungle” is close; attempts by its residents to reach England fill the local media. Hanna hopes her young friend will be welcome in Margate, but although the town has changed, alongside the coffee bars and vintage shops there is still an undercurrent of hostility towards the migrants and refugees who are so desperate to enter the UK.

Once again, Hanna’s arrival turns Hannah’s life upside down, as together they take a journey which Hannah from Margate would not have thought possible.

PART OF THE MARGATE FESTIVAL MAKING WAVES

Making Waves is a brand-new initiative brought to you by UK Arts International and Looping The Loop.

An exciting weekend of Theatre, Dance and Live Performance, Making Waves is the perfect marketplace for local new work to be presented to a National platform.

Showcasing the region’s best theatre, dance, comedy, cabaret and music, Making Waves offers everyone involved in creating live performance in North and East Kent, the opportunity to present their work to an audience of industry professionals with a view to extending networks and developing performance opportunities – all underpinned by a professional development day led by Charlotte Jones, director of the Independent Theatre Council.

So whether you are a producer, venue manager, festival director, programmer, booker, agent or simply an arts professional wanting to network with industry peers, Making Waves is a chance to explore the wealth of creative talent based in the area through full length productions, a showcase of excerpts, and a pitch event for ‘ready to go’ work, as well as opportunities to network with all the participating artists.

Taking place over the weekend of 27th – 29th September, Making Waves is part of Margate Now and takes place as the Turner Prize exhibition opens at Turner Contemporary.
