MARGATE RHYTHM & ROCK 2020

HAWKWIND / ALABAMA 3 / WRECKLESS ERIC / SOFT MACHINE / NINE BELOW ZERO / THE HOT RODS / EDGAR BROUGHTON

MORE ACTS TO BE ANNOUNCED

Margate Rhythm & Rock returns to Margate Winter Gardens for a three-day festival of Classic Rock.

Margate Rhythm & Rock offers a festival experience for grown-ups: no mud, no camping (unless you really want to!) and — as it all takes place indoors — rain cannot stop play. And, let’s not forget: the entire festival takes place in one of the UK’s original seaside resort.

Here is a festival where you can leave those wellies and raincoats at home. Our indoors stages guarantee an excellent quality of sound, and there’ll be plenty of places to sit, watch, eat, and drink…

FRIDAY 4th SEPTEMBER 6pm-11:30pm

“The Wonderful World of WRECKLESS ERIC”

Eric Goulden (aka Wreckless Eric) takes over Margate Winter Gardens for a night of greatest hits, past, present and future. It’s been over 43 years since Eric Goulden exploded onto the scene via Stiff Records with a silly name and a great and enduring debut in ‘Whole Wide World’.

In this exclusive one-off event, Eric will be curating and performing songs from his entire career (some for the first time in decades) as well as presenting some of his extraordinary friends. A one-off evening of top-notch entertainment that’s not to be missed.

SATURDAY 5th SEPTEMBER 12noon-11:30pm

ALABAMA 3

NINE BELOW ZERO / THE HOT RODS + more

Saturday headliners Alabama 3 are one of the strangest musical outfits to rise out of the late-’90s London scene, combining Blues, Gospel, and Country with dance beats and gross theatricality. Although perhaps best known for their theme to TV’s The Sopranos (‘Woke Up This Morning’), A3 remains one of the best live acts you’ll ever experience.

Preceding them on the Main Stage are veteran London manic-Blues band, Nine Below Zero. Still led by founders Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham, NBZ are known for their scintillating live performances and driving sound. In a similar vein, The Hot Rods pay tribute to their founder member Barrie Masters who tragically died late last year, with a set that includes all the hits, including ‘Do Anything You Wanna Do’,’ Teenage Depression’ and ‘Quit This Town’.

SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER 12noon-10:30pm

HAWKWIND

SOFT MACHINE / EDGAR BROUGHTON + more

Topping the bill on the final day is the legendary Hawkwind, known for their huge body of innovative Psychedelic and Progressive Rock music. With founder Dave Brock still at the helm, last year the band celebrated their 50th anniversary with a sell-out tour culminating at the Royal Albert Hall.

In their earliest outings as a Psychedelic band, Soft Machine shared stages with Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. More recently, they have transformed into one of Europe’s best-known Fusion groups. Back in 1969, Edgar Broughton (‘Out Demons Out’) was one of the leaders of the British Counter-Culture, 51 years later, he remains an acerbic and acclaimed singer/songwriter.

More acts will be added.

PLUS – DJ WENDY MAY will be ensuring the set-to-set supply of RHYTHM & ROCK staples worthy of the festival’s name on Saturday and Sunday.
